Control

I think we were born with the need to control things. And on some level we can. However, most of life will travel on with or without our help. When you begin feeling anxiety, step back and see if it is really a control issue. If it is then meditation can help you clear the anxiety and accept that the control is not yours. Be a child sometimes and allow the control to belong to the universe.

Moving

This is my main mantra. When dealing chronic pain you need this mantra. Because the second you stop moving the pain can take over. As long as you are moving you have focus and purpose. Moving toward your goals even in very small steps is still moving. Improvement only happens when you are moving toward the light.

Age

This one is a reminder for me. There was a point around 11 or 12 years old where someone told me not to rush my life away. Strangely I took it to heart and have always been ok with how old I am. Never wanted to be older or younger. I hope that I am instilling that in my daughter also. Age is a number not an attitude. Today I am 46 years young and happy to have made it here. It has been a struggle but there have been so many great and happy days that they overshadow the rest. Don't let a number get to you. Enjoy each moment!

Time

This is true. You do not have to be in a perfect place to meditate. I personally do not sit up straight most of the time. Most often I am reclining due to pain in my knees. Just take a few moments and close your eyes. Relax your body. Tell your muscles to rest and loosen up your shoulders. If you have an illness to address send healing thoughts to that area or your whole body. Often I just repeat the word "healing" over and over focused at that spot. If you have mental concerns just find a word that means something to you and repeat it. Completely clearing your mind will be very difficult at first but over time it is much easier. If you need more help check out apps like calm.com which give you guided meditation for as little as 5 minutes. Even just that amount can help. Just remember it is not about being perfect but about finding ways to relax and clear your thoughts. It is just for you and no one else.

Giving

Giving is the best way of stepping away from yourself and the stresses that come with you. Giving the intangible gifts is much more important than material things. But you know all of that. So why don't we give of ourselves more? We are rushing and pushing toward things too much to stop and take the time. Meditation asks you to stop, rest and open up which allows you to slow down. Be restful and giving!

Surround

Meditation helps with calming your mind and spirit but you also need people around you that help too. Often we have people in our life who are negative or simply make you feel unsafe. As much as possible we should try to avoid those who makes us feel less than ourselves. That can be hard if they are someone you are close to. In those cases you can try to bring them back to the light or sadly you may have to let them go in order to find peace. Exude positive and surround yourself with positive people and the world will feel brighter.
